Lindfield CC v RNVR Cricket Club on Sun 16 Jul 2023 at 2pm
RNVR Cricket Club Won by 51 runs
Match report
Match manager Reza Maroof first game back from 8 weeks incarceration following op.
First task was select a full and balanced side, so a huge relief to have Ali Mohammed [Thanks👌] in our side with a few crying off during the week.
Second task was to select a willing and able seaman / skipper and Vinay Kumar kindly obliged to do his first game as leader.
40 over format
Vinay won the toss and elected to bat
The openers and one down failed miserably, with Charlie Crichton with 23 [4 x 4s] and Ed Hewens again the saviour with 83 were the only batsman to reach double figures. Whilst Ed was the hero by top scoring, he was the villain who ran poor Ali Mohammed by calling a run upon glancing down towards leg slip without facing a ball. The look of disdain from Slick on the boundary for what his master had done was priceless🤣 . James Bamford look flummoxed that he leg glanced Richardson and would not budge until Reza Maroof umpiring fired him back to the pavilion 😤. RNVR were struggling to register a decent score , being 82 for 8, when Thomas “Hilmanator from St Cross Symondians CC fame ” Hilman 👌 came to occupy the crease giving enough time for Ed Hewens to accumulate more runs whilst consuming the overs.
And when Thomas Hilman departed, Francis Potter 👌 replicated numerous dot balls but did smash one to the boundary, which enabled to Ed Hewens to continue accumulating runs before being bowled by Beattie for 83 [14 x 4s]. A respectable total of 158, especially from where RNVR were during the game.
In reply, Lindfield CC started well with youngster E Beatie and W Fuller accumulating runs quite slowly due to very tight bowling by both Skipper Vinay Kumar and Francis Potter. Francis 7-1-14-1 managing to account for young Beatie who looked relatively comfortable facing our openers, Vinay catching him short cover for 7. James Bamford 6-1-30-5 and Ed Hewens 6-0-22-2 carried on the tight bowling effort with excellent figures, although James first wicket was a complete rotter for LBW but a wicket is a wicket, and a 5fer 👌 was super impressive – well done. One of those Bamford wickets was a skyer and Charlie Crichton 👌 running from deep mid-off taking an absolute peach low down. One of Ed Hewens wickets was a stumping by Laurie “The Claw” Cadle , but should have had 2 if not for the umpire who disagreed at this precise moment. That’s simply social/Sunday cricket and we love playing it especially in Sussex.
Lastly, it was Mark Pepler and Thomas Hillman to bowl a couple of overs each with Mark 👌 ending with super impressive figs of 1.2 – 1 – 0 - 2, that’s right zero runs, but he has “Tiger” Tim Hardman 👌 to thank for another amazing running forward diving catch from mid on just above the grass. RNVR were superb in the field with no misdemeanours and more importantly no dropped catches. Well done all round a super team effort.
Win by 51 runs, skipper Vinay 👌 absolutely over the moon with his first outing as the Dear Great Leader
