Laurie and Ed opened the batting and found the going tough on slow pitch and long grassy outfield and got drinks 15 overs in with a return of 49 runs. The opening pair reached 122 Laurie Cadle was adjudged to be LBW for 53 [10x 4s]. A brilliant start by the openers but Ed Hewens followed soon after without challenging the scorer any further with 64 [11 x 4s and 1 x 6] also LBW. Vinay Kumar the only other batsman to reach double figures with 14 [2 x 4s]. Progress to 139 in 30 overs and all out for 203 in 40th over, so great use of the overs by RNVR.
St Albans opened with S Kumar and another Maroof – sorry but there is only room for one Maroof here !!!! S Kumar was beautifully removed by Vinay Kumar with the stumps reeling in the 3rd over for 0. Tex Warnes opened the bowling at the other with regular and miserly performance with the first 4 overs going for no runs and bagging #3 for 0 in his 3rd over. Very impressive start by RNVR and makes for thirsty for Match Manager Maroof constantly rehydrating and keeping cool, whilst namesake was making hay whilst the sun shone scoring. Meanwhile , Vinay Kumar was taking wickets in his 3rd and 5th overs ending up with impressive figures per usual 6-1-16-3. Tex Warned ended up with similarly impressive 8-4-27-1 which generated scored pressure for incoming St Albans batman, where they were 52 for 4 off 15 overs. St Albans progressed to 115 for 6 off 30 overs with Robert Paterson bowling figures of 7-0-34-2 and Arun Nayak 4-0-30-1 taking important wicket of the free scoring and aggressive Maroof who scored with 40. Ed Hewens bowled extremely tight with the first 6 overs only going for 10 runs , but with score board pressure and H Thomas and Sud taking a liking to his leg spin in the last 2 overs managed to end up with 8-2-26-1.
Yogesh Bhanushali came on to initially bowl a tight line with first 3 overs going for 7 before being dealt to by the St Albans batmen chasing 204 which certainly looked like slipping and Yogesh ended up wicketless with 5-0-25-0. Yogesh partnered with Simon Gray for the last wicket run out with a super impressive throw in from deep over the stumps on the 2nd ball of Simon’s first over. St Albans all out for 159, just running out of sufficient overs with the impressive RNVR bowling effort taking wickets and creating scoreboard pressure throughout the game.
Laurie Cadle the skipper rounded off the impressive day with a stumping and 2 catches , to register a win for RNVR – Huge Thanks from the Match Manager Reza Maroof to all for playing and a very hot Sunday.
RNVR wins by 44 runs.
