RNVR Cricket Club Lost lost by 5 wickets and 6.3 overs remaining

Match report A second match of the weekend and it's not a tour, what was happening. Another sunny day and another picturesque ground, yesterdays surrounded by skyscrapers and todays surround by countryside shaped by Capability Brown no less.

A day for batting first in the sunshine was rather stifled by a stuttering start and the story of getting in and getting out. Crichton enjoying being at his allotted spot at 5 looked to glue back together our innings. A brief but promising partnership with Eason, who succumbed to a very sharp c&b, was followed by a more substantial one with Massey Snr - it's been a while since we've had the pleasure of that moniker and it was good to see Anthony back and looking the part. Then a stint with Kumar and things were beginning to feel a little more respectable. Kumar took over when Crichton succumbed to the inevitable early season catch but with a handy 34 to his name. Vacher Jnr came and went, unfortunately but his time for a longer entry into the report will come, paving the way for Vacher Snr. Together Kumar and Vacher got us from a passable total to a respectable one with a 50 partnership, Vacher, 22, kindly allowed Hillman to provide the final ballast of the innings accompanying Kumar for the last of his 45 not out and a total of 182.

It was a defendable total, potentially. Kumar and Massey Snr bowled some compelling stuff and tied down their openers. Hardman taking an impressive catch to give Kumar the first of his 2 wickets. Porter replaced Massey, and maintained the pressure securing a couple for himself, the second of which amused everyone apart from the batsman - allegedly a former Somerset 2nd XI player. Vacher, also Snr, accompanied the applied pressure, however Usman was quietly going about straight batting anything challenging but putting away anything that was in his arc especially on the off, that is until Vacher tempted him into finding the on side... An elegant and almost chance-less 100 saw Chalfont St Peter over the line + one or two large 6s at the end form their vice-captain (self appointed apparently).

It was a result that satisfied one side a little more than the other but it was a pleasure to have taken part in. Great to see new faces and older ones returning, as well as The President and family Crichton to boot. We are all off to practice hitting the ball a split second later and definitely not in the air!

On to the next one.
