Lindfield CC v RNVR Cricket Club on Sun 10 Jul 2022 at 2pm
RNVR Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Coppard 50 - 58 balls, 57 mins
We merry souls gathered for a timely pre match team meeting for fish and chips, has Vinay ever eaten anything else? at The Witch Inn in Linfield. The Longman pint for Hardman Tim caused Mr Dale much amusement. Suitably fed and watered we left with the general consensus we would bat first and ensure the opposition would be suitably roasted in the field under the hot sun. I naturally lost the toss and we were inserted into the field to be suitably cooked ourselves. The mission was not too be too burned and try to provide all a game for one and all.
Vinay has played for the RNVR for six years and has taken several 4 fors, Invariably he is hoiked off when at 4 so has not joined the club. So when he had taken 3 it was inevitable that this discussion arose, could a Vinay's five for be achieved. Already an entertaining start; Tim, of said pervious Longman fame, had taken a skied catch using the little know stomach balancing technique. Reza; whom had already taken a great catch from in equally excellent spell from Frano, managed to celebrate the catch before catching the catch so it proved to be a celebration too early of the catch that then was not a catch. Back to Vinay, he had taken four and under the pressure of one final over he produced the definitive in-cutting ball and he now stands amongst RNVR giants; the select few who have a five for and 100. Lindfield put up some resistance in the face of George, Ben, Theo and Tim's attack, with Mr Priddle taking the final wicket. A couple of special mentions to Ben four overs four maidens and Dougy Porter for dropping sitter of the day - Perhaps his dawn finish and the days previous imbibing had something to do with that?
All that was needed was for Reza and Paul to blast most of the 101 runs off without too much trouble, Paul scoring a half century not out and Reza falling just short. They very kindly allowed me a provide a minimal contribution to the day hit the winning runs. An absolute pleasure of an afternoon, a W in the column and the magic of cricket still remains firmly in my heart and long may that continue. Thank you all for a superb day.
