Match report The Match Manager Reza was caught shirking his duties as Skipper as well, duly passed the mantel across to Tex Warnes who accepted gleefully although unwilling to take the toss. So Reza duty bound met Steve Winslet their skipper to discuss format and ground rules given the short boundaries and netting which were 4s and had to clear them for a 6. Format was declaration and 20 overs after 6pm with a bit of negotiation. Reza having lost the toss and RNVR were put into bat, Tex picked his batting order Laurie and Reza to open, and without troubling the scorers Reza was back in the hutch 2nd ball bowled by a yorker and who was also dropped on the first ball full toss. Wins the trophy for simply turning up again dry run continues. In comes Matty Dryden, scores a 4 but then succumbs to another straight ball from young fast bowler , resulting in wicket sprayed. Theo manages to score 13 off 19 balls, before falling to the same fast bowler , but caught this time. In comes usual No 5 bat , who retorted with - " surely we will be 5 of 25" when someone suggested we had a reasonably strong batting line up, came to the middle in his usual swagger reminiscent of Sir Viv scored 6 off 14 balls but was run out again. Tim followed Charlie but lasting 21 balls before being caught for 0. Mike was caught by attempting to pull a short one for 7 of 7 balls. Dougie joined Laurie who was quietly accumulating runs in style sadly before he middled a straight one and got caught and bowled for an impressive 45. Laurie has been consistent great for RNVR and without him we would staring at a one the lowest score by RNVR - Stato to confirm lowest. Dougie second highest scorer at 19 decided to charge a new spinner Steve W attempt to get runs on the board but failed to get bat on ball and was duly stumped. Pepler came in and returned with 4 of 6 balls and Dad was out last bowled for 1 with Skipper Tex running out of partners in the 33rd over and sadly stranded. Not the best effort batting except for Laurie who was classy and impressive as he does always.
After a great tea by Headley - Thank you . Headley went into bat with Bazball aggression, attempting hit out from the off. Whilst the RNVR bowlers were unlucky with quite a few strokes played and missed, they managed to get quick runs. Opener Calvert bludgeoned his way to 25 off 17 but was eventually caught off Davinder bowling. Tex was more impressive with ball, with his metronomic swing and trapped both the second opener Connelly 9 and Moss 16 and Headley were 3 for 56. Robin 29 and T Winslet 25 duly got the remaining 61 runs with ease with Mike being unlucky to remain wicketless , as did Doug Theo and Pepler.
