Match report
On a wet and windy Sunday, RNVR travelled up to play Chalfont St Peters CC. Despite the obvious age gap between the teams, a close contest looked on the cards. The RNVR were inserted by the hosts, and the overhead conditions made run scoring tricky.
After Hardman was dismissed, the top order fell to the wayside, with only Jimmy holding fort with a valiant and classy 74. As the pressure to up the scoring came in the last few overs, a vital, battling 27 from Antony Massey and some stylish flicks through the leg-side from Bertie Vacher helped the score on to 164 off 40 overs.
Early wickets were the key here, and despite a great opening spell from Davs, the elusive breakthrough didn’t arrive as the CSP openers batted well. Buckland broke the partnership, but the no.3 carried on the good work, and the total was sadly chased down with ease with 9 overs to spare.
A tough defeat, but at least glad to get a full game out of it given the forecast. On to the Winchester tour!
