Match report A tightly contested game in which over 520 runs were scored by both teams in this 40 over match, saw the RNVR come out just short of victory.

With a number of tardy arrivals and 1 no show, it was with relief that Colin Bridges (stand in skipper) won the toss and elected to bat first at South Nutfield. Mike Saunders and Jono VP made a solid start with an opening stand of 71. Hylton Phillips came in and blasted a quick 17 before a couple of wickets tumbled putting pressure back on the batting side. Colin Bridges and Nick Priddle then steadied the ship putting on 100 for the 5th wicket (a new record at this ground) before Bridges was dismissed for 77. With limited overs remaining Mark Pepler came to the crease and hit a few boundaries to see off the innings - 263 / 5 off 40 - competitive.

So South Nutts went about their business getting off to a flying start. However wickets from both opening bowlers in Vinay and Fran meant that at 10 overs the score was 70-2. This brought in the oppo's 2 "gun" bats to the crease. While one of said batsman went onto make a score, Hylts and Bridges picked up wickets meaning at the halfway stage South Nuts were on 138-4. Up with the rate but still a long way to go!

At this point the game looked to be in the R's favour particularly when there gun bat was dismissed for 68. Or so they thought. A maiden 50 from one of their youngsters and some big hitting from their number 8 meant at 30 overs, the score was 192/6. 70 needed from the last 10! Game on. Unfortunately, a few missed chances allowed their number 8 to hit South Nutts to victory and record a famous win in the last over.

Sadly...back to the fielding drills for the RNVR !
