Match report Day 2 of Tour 2020 began with RNVR in high spirits despite the previous day's defeat. After the obligatory trip down to Rottingdean beach and annual saving of Tom from the water, the team headed to the Bowl to start a declaration "42-38" match.

Winning the toss and inserting the opposition was the order of the day, and Frano and Davs opened. After a steady opening partnership, a couple of wickets fell and gave access to the stylish young nos 4 and 5 who took a liking to the bowling.

Enter Will Buckland (round 1) with a miserly 7 over spell to break the heart of the oppo, and with Potter on a hattrick and Fouldsy knocking off the tail, the innings ended on 166 declared nine down, off 42.

After a quick tea break, the RNVR openers strode out. A few quick early wickets brought the skipper to the crease. But with a flurry of enthusiastic boundaries, he too perished looking to hit the ball onto the road. As Pepler and Crichton steadily accumulated, the total inched closer.

However, dead-eye straight bowling brought Rottingdean right back into it, with more quick wickets leaving the RNVR 9 down with 50 needed.

Enter Will Buckland (round 2) with a truly epic 42 not out in an unbeaten last wicket stand of 50 with Davs (RNVR record at Rottingdean) which included one of the biggest 6s I have witnessed in 25 years of playing cricket.

The tiring Rottingdean attack was no match for clean hitting as the ball disappeared over the ropes 4 times.

No prizes for guessing MoM, but a great game had by all, and the oppo were in good spirits. In true RNVR fashion, we could not have scripted it any better.

Tour is well and truly alive!
