Match report After the excitement of Lords the previous Sunday, RNVR returned to the field against South Nutfield - a fixture that's known as much, if not more, controversy than any deflected 5 over the years.

Skipper Massey was late so Prids stepped in, won the toss and elected to bat. After losing Reza early to one that nipped back up the slope, the Skipper and stand-in put on 60odd before Massey top-edged a pull down deep square leg's throat. Further 50 stands with Charlie and Ben Cooper followed before Prids reached a well-made 100 and retired (another red-inker). He was by that point in the company of Vinay who also made a fine 67* as the RNVR declared on 291 for 6.

In reply, despite the short straight boundaries, South Nutfield never really threatened to overhaul our total. Lots of batsmen got starts but all but 1 fell before reaching 50, there were some fine catches (Messrs Dale, Upton, Massey and Cooper) and similarly the usual collection of terrible drops, with Dale in particular bowling well and picking up 4 wickets. The last few overs proved a little tense as some of South Nutfield's juniors mixed counter-attack with holding out for the draw but despite a direct hit run out with 3 balls to spare (cracking ringer) they ended up 9 wickets down and a draw, no need for boundary counts.
