Out of Africa, into Outwood
'Available for selection, if needed' came in the WhatsApp chat late Friday, from 'Robert'. Once the right Robert (Paterson) had been identified (after a panicked Eason reply on email), fresh from the safari sands of Rwanda, it was only one-way traffic. Ten overs up the hill at Outwood would have broken most RNVR bowlers, but not lionheart Paterson: his 5-36 had Outwood 74-7 at one point. Some lusty late-order runs took them to a respectable 180 all out, including a two-in-two for debutante Ben Grenier. At 30-4, and then 65-5, RNVR were wobbling, but Ben G hit some long balls and put on 50 with skipper Warnes. Enter buffalo-esque Paterson to hit some even longer balls and put on another fifty; game won. And he made it all look so easy. Perhaps we should all go on extended safari....
