Match report RNVR readers will know that RPV spent lockdown(s) 2020/2021 uploading old scorecards to the RNVR website. We have books 1976-date. This left a number of players short of their full careers.

Possibly among, but the least of these, were DBC and Dr A Simpson. Of the people known to members of the 21st century the greater effect will have been had on the careers of Sir Patrick Sergeant and Eddie Cox as well as AGH, Peter Connolly and Brian Cole, to name but three much loved former members. I wrote to the former two to try to address this.

This entry features (for self evident reasons) the rememberings of Eddie Cox:

"Thank you for your email which requested some details of my contribution to VR cricket
I played most of my cricket for the club from the day after I left the Navy in Aug/Sep 1957 to when I moved to St Albans in 1964
During this time I can remember (I hope there were more) 4 scores greater than 70 [PV note - all included here] including a 70 against Wimbledon [Including this one - as I have no idea when the fabled Wimbledon CC fixture was played - late 57 or early 58?? It is fabled as DBC and others were WCC players before they joined RNVR, PMC was a hockey Ref at Wimbledon and pulled in a lot of hockey players] on my first game There were other 50’s (included here] along the way one of which I remember was on tour against Middleton on sea. [Whom we played for many years on the Thursday of Tour]......but anything we did that day was eclipsed by an enormous score by 16 year Mike Brearley [DoB 28 April 1942] who spent his summer holidays playing cricket there

Apart from a bit of bowling my contribution was quite modest......but it did provide me with the opportunity to play with some wonderful personalities
