Match report 1949 the Cuckfield game was only being played for the second time.
Played originally as the Saturday before their cricket week, ie the weekend before our current Wednesday match (1951 onwards).
1949 was the year that Arthur Hensher took his 7 for 43. His first wicket was Geoffrey Longfield's father, Maurice.

Arthur stood down as RNVR President at the end of the 2011 season. He was made a fuss of at Cuckfield, where they presented him with the scorecard, which now hangs in their pavilion and at his home.
At the time he remarked that he'd done the same the next day. Sadly we may never now know how or where, or if it was true!

Mike Bowring of Cuckfield returned the favour, against us, taking 9 for 38 in 1969

Geoffrey Longfield went on to write (email 18 April 2020); "I went into the Army on 15/8/1953 and must have played
in one of the RNVR games in the period 1951-53. Later analysis shows that he debuted versus RNVR in 1957.
