RNVR Cricket Club Lost
Match report
Bruce Crichton remembers this as one of his favorite innings:
RNVR bat first.
The afternoon meanders along. Holliday (*below), on the way to his highest ever score adds a breezy 46 with Searle, before Matthew is out trying to hit Peter Collins into tomorrow; but presumably Geoffrey Longfield's not needed to move far and is underneath it.
They cross.
Holliday continues, whacking the next for four too.
The next is a single and The new bat Paul Thomas safely sees out the rest of the Collins over.
Having hit Barry Jones for twelve the over before Holiday eyes him up on 88 for his ton.
Third ball he’s bowled.
Bill Collins too is watchful. No more runs but at some point an extra is taken because for its addition after 8 balls the 7th wicket falls.
Collins bowled Collins.
Simpson strides out, all excited, for some quick plunder.
It’s the sixth ball. He blocks it.
Barry Jones to Thomas.
This is a seven-delivery over And presumably, from the pavilion as you try to set a target, the dullest over in the history of cricket. You are besides yourself and no doubt Wyles, padded up, is also showing with what vigour he would address the bowling
For the next it’s Collins again.
To the screams of the pavilion Simpson is able to get off strike to the third ball and Thomas takes two off the sixth. Possibly just wanting a single and being denied it by Alan who wants the strike. Only 3 taken.
A new over.
Jones starts his, still long, run up And bowls;... Simpos bat whirls,.... but his legs don’t move.
The cameo is over.
Cometh the man. (Ed; stump mike not working, we may be missing the on-field comments here)

And with That, rather than watching Thomas glum out another over, you declare.
239-8
They do of course chase them down. But not before you’ve made Thomas bowl 23 overs unchanged, taking him off when his final three have been wicket maiden, maiden, maiden.
*Holliday's memory was recorded too;
"I remember that day as if it were yesterday! I tried to cut a short ball pitching on middle. It kept low!!!! Poor ball poor shot. Should have been the only 100 I would ever have scored!"
