Byfleet CC v RNVR Cricket Club on Sun 13 Sep 1964 at 11.30am
RNVR Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
This is def an all day game, whereas later years might not be ('65) and def weren't ('66).
Perhaps odd in an all day game to use just two bowlers. Byfleet use 7, one assumes to give them a game.
11.53am start
Possibly Harrison's lunch is Port fuelled at 1.15pm-2.20pm, taking a five-for after lunch as Byfleet collapse from 66 for 4, 10 mins before lunch, to 92-4 some time after the 2.20pm resumption, with the last 6 wickets falling between 2.37pm and 3pm!
In August 2021 Ian Bond recalled..
Yes, a smile and also a subconscious moment of agony to my left hand. During my innings I had a painful blow on my left hand. The pain continued until Monday and I went for an x-ray at St George’s Hospital at Hyde Park Corner (now a swanky hotel).
I saw a very smooth, immaculately dressed consultant who had half a dozen students with him. He looked at the x-ray and said to the students “ Now gentlemen Mr Bond is a cricketer. You will remember that last week we had another cricketer, Mr Titmus. They both fractured their hand”
Having been grouped with Freddie Titmus as a cricketer is without doubt the highest honour of my meagre life on the cricket field.
Perhaps Byfleet was known to be a weak side, hence my relatively high position in the batting order. I also note that my flatmate, Jeremy Coltart, was next man in. Even in junior house matches at school he had never been in higher than number nine !
