RNVR Cricket Club Won by 109 runs.

Match report Set up as a two day celebration of Ditchling's 200th anniversary over a year in advance the match was harder to pull off as a two dayer than expected. In the end it rained on the first day and the match was delayed until the second, becoming a one inning, one day game.

Sadly, the match manager (PV) forgot to tell Emeritus President AGH who had to spend the day in the Bull Inn, in Ditchling, in the rain. He survived and watched the game the next day. He left early, by train to Chelmsford. It was the last RNVR game he attended.

Harry Eastman at the time was 9 or 10 years old and playing Sussex standard, possibly a year above himself. Bowling at him to try to close out the match for the RNVR was the match manager, who remarked to AGH later that despite the age difference between bat and bowler the batsman had indeed survived. AGH remarked that although the age difference between he and I was similar he would have had me out, despite being 94.......It is a very sad moment in a chap's life to realise that he has missed the best chance he has of dismissing someone 40 years younger.
