Match report A short lived attempt at a mid week culture (RNVR having a lot of retirees), and this side was Bertie Vacher's friends on half term and Old Man.......
S&MCC have been running a semi autonomous Wednesday side for 20 years.

Winning this and winning the Last Man Stands game in the evening may well have been the first time that the RNVR put out two sides in one day at separate venues. And two victories too.

Hardwicke, Pollington & Vacher were all 12 at the time.
Vernon-Powell/Hardwicke 66 for the 3rd wicket, (32 balls) needs to be seen in that context!

Hewens had an evening appointment and was sadly in a hurry
Time was pressing for the run chase generally and when the innings started the 20 overs were going to be considerably earlier (by earlier agreement - SMCC seemingly having just wanted to bat all afternoon).
Some "in-play" negotiation sorted that all out as "misunderstanding", but after Ben Dale's dismissal the batting line up could have seemed like a long tail - which it most clearly was not. Hardwicke doing well under pressure to support Jono - in amazing form - and Will Pollington (whose Father played against us at Mayfield in 2003 and earlier) "got on with it". Scotty, calm as ever and unflustered by the pace required adapted beautifully away from being an opener.
