Match report
Waltham St Lawrence vs RNVR
8 May 2010
RNVR 190-6 (Ferguson 67, Massey Senior 48)
Waltham St. Lawrence 129 all out (Thornton 4-19)
RNVR win by 61 runs
Tiger Tim, Happy Hillman & a 100% Record
RNVR remain unbeaten (there I’ve said it) with an opening and resounding victory on day 1 of the 2010 season. With that rather shallow 40 over format the order of the day, this feat was all the more remarkable considering 8 overs (and the ‘mystery combination’ fifth bowler) comprised the makeshift trundle of ‘Tiger’ Tim Harman and grenades of ‘finisher’ Hillman. Whilst of course we could dwell on the opening partnership of 126, a very promising debut from Priddle, or the marvellous spin twins of Massey Junior and Thornton applying a vice like grip to the WSL mid-innings, renditions from Jacob (book of Genesis 32:28) and a sing along to Songs of Praise over tea make for a much better blog (Aled Jones eat your heart out). Penguin will be mortified he missed all this not to mention plenty of gratuitous ‘jogging on the spot’ (patent pending) – let’s hope Penguin gets his wing fixed asap. A special mention must go to the cab driver who got the ‘finisher’ to the ground after a £50 ride from Barnes (though many of us would have paid him for the privilege).
For the record I have had (with ‘BETMASSEY – THE BONUS QUEEN’) £2 at 250/1 that RNVR will win every completed game this season. Whilst I appreciate many of you will guffaw at this, do not underestimate the power of the current squad (surely the power of God? – see earlier, ed). I for one am certainly forming an orderly queue....
