Ditchling CC v RNVR Cricket Club on Sun 01 Aug 2010 at 11:30
RNVR Cricket Club Lost 6 Wickets
Match report
Ditchling vs. RNVR
1 August 2010
RNVR 242 all out (Charles Crichton 99)
Ditchling 246-4 (Harvey 93, Adams 58*)
Ditchling win by 6 wkts
Char-we Wonton, Egg Flied Lice & a Portion of No. 99
And so to tour 61 (or 60 if you believe the President). After 2 years of batting on a lake it was nice to get inserted (again) on a rather drier day by the generous Mr. Pepler of Hurstpierpoint. History has an awful knack of repeating itself though and at 13-3 the Sussex wormhole had the score perfectly aligned with that of 2009. In a peculiar turn of events, Mr Charles Crichton esq. of Clapham, still languishing in his hyperbaric oxygen chamber somewhere on a Swiss mountain top was replaced by his long lost Chinese cousin, Mr Char-we Wonton esq. of Shanghai. This particular member of the Kyton dynasty (see Rottingdean 2010) did not let the family down, the only inevitability of course being his more than predictable demise on 99 (though a heated dispute between other members of the extended family within the score box had it anything between 84 and 162). A quick bludgeon at the end by McCape Staples with his newly knocked in caber to the tune of 34 put a rather favourable gloss on proceedings, the previous precipitousness ( shoorley not a real word – ed) somehow prolonged.
An early wicket for Davinder with the demise of Searle instilled hope in the RNVR’s opening salvo but Harvey, after a good working over by the ‘nice’ Mr Speedman, dug in. Despite the deployment of the RNVR’s most lethal weapon, Piers ‘Kid Curry’ Vacher (the fastest finger in Surrey) to remove him for 93 after possibly the most ridiculous appeal of all time this side of Karachi, Adams, impersonating his great hero Alan Knott, wrapped up the game, smashing the ball to all parts whilst still complimenting the bowlers mid-shot. The RNVR thank Ditchling again for their wonderful hospitality and hope to deploy ‘Kid Curry’ much, much earlier next year....
