After a season in which he was available for a huge number of the games played, and attended 20, and almost all with conspicuous selfless success Vinay deservedly was awarded the Hensher Cup at the End of Season dinner at the Alma in Wandsworth. His thirty wickets in a season matched Paul Thomas' haul in 1996, and is the highest achieved since then.
It was the 7th time since 2000 that 20 has been passed this century (James Massey 25 in 2011, William Buckland 21 in both 2007 and 2004, Rupert Vaughan 23 in 2005, Matt Jones 24 in 2003 and Ashley Cooper 23 in 2000.)
Prior to 2000 only four people are recorded as having taken more than 20 in a season, with the record haul being Paul Thomas' 38 in 1988. Paul passed 20 in seven seasons (and reached thirty or more in 5 of those!). The others are Graham Wyles (3 times in the 1980s and 90's), Bernie Kingston in 1984 and Peter Connolly in the seventies, twice, but our records are not complete before 1976.
In six seasons Vinay has scored 1,023 runs at 39.35, with two centuries, and taken 82 wickets at 19.24, with two five wicket hauls.
